 ⚡️ Electrical FAQ's.

Q: Are there any government grants for EV charging points?

A: The OZEV Grant, also known as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS), ended on 31st March 2022 for homeowners. Unfortunately, the scheme only remains open to homeowners who live in flats or rental accommodation, however with a range of competitively priced home EV chargers available, we hope to be able to provide a charger that suits your budget and requirements.

Q: What is the difference between a tethered and untethered charge point?

A: Tethered charge points have a long cable attached to the charge point and are available with either a Type 1 or Type 2 connector. Most new EVs come with a Type 2 connector, but it's always worth checking before getting a tethered charging point. An untethered charge point has no cable attached and will require you to supply your own Type 1/2 lead in order to use the charging station.

Q: How long does it take to charge an electric car?

A: This depends on the size of your car battery and the speed of the charging point. With a 7kW charging point, it takes just under 8 hours to fully charge an electric car with a 60kWh battery.

Q: What power rating should I use for my home socket?

A: In the UK, 3-7 kW chargers are the most popular and are widely recommended. Some homes have a single-phase (AC) electricity supply and can support the additional 7 kW load and there are some homes with a three-phase (AC) supply that can use a more powerful charger for up to 22 kW. We will check your supply and demand to ensure it has enough spare capacity to support the additional load of your home charging station.
